Amman, April 17, 2012 After more than seven year, Japan returns to occupy the first position in the world of SUPERCOMPUTERS outrunning China.  The new model which was named “K” was built during critical conditions which faced Japan after the Earthquake. This invention was carried out by FUJITSU teaming with RIKEN, Advanced Institute for Computational Science intended to be deployed in July, 2012.

The capacity of this supercomputer will surpass the capacity of one million PCs, and can execute 8000 billion operations in one second. It has 672 cabins and its total cost reached up to 1.2 billion dollars.

This new computer will advance Japan in various scientific, environment and research fields due to it gigantic and miraculous function. This supercomputer will be used by scientific institutions and universities in the field of advanced genetics researches which can never be accomplished without these machines. The new invention will enhance the ability to make precise forecasting and natural phenomenon predictions such as earthquakes and Tsunami which will help in saving many lives when they occur.

In the USA, politicians and scientist are too worried due to Japanese superiority in this scope. The American Council of Competitiveness which involves the elites of scientists in the fields of science and finance expressed worries in its announcement that other countries are surpassing USA in the field of supercomputers and warned that “Supercomputing is part of the corporate arsenal to beat rivals by staying one step ahead on the innovation curve. It provides the power to design products and analyze data in ways once unimaginable” Washington Post: 24th July, 2011.

Masahiko Yamada, the head of technical solution unit at Fujitsu speaking about the status qua of supercomputers says; “Over twenty years ago supercomputers where just for very small research and engineers because computer performance was not sufficient at that time to solve real human issues … but today supercomputers are one million times faster than 20 years ago”

In his comment on the occasion, Ryoji Noyori, President of RIKEN announced his thanks and gratitude to FUJITSU for their great efforts despite the catastrophic circumstances engulfed the country those days “I would like to express my deep gratitude to everyone, beginning with our colleagues at our development partner Fujitsu Limited, who worked so valiantly on the construction of the K computer even under the severe conditions following the Great East Japan Earthquake.” He said.

Fujitsu commented “Without being too pleased with ourselves and losing sight of our goal, going forward we will proceed with the system’s deployment and, once complete, we look forward to contributing to the achievements that the K computer will make possible”.
